About the Event

This course consists of the Massachusetts LTC07 curriculum. It consists of live fire so students MUST bring a handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition and eye and ear protection. At the successful completion of this course, you will receive a Home Firearm Safety Certificate as well as a Massachusetts Basic Firearm Safety Certificate.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Massachusetts permit must be renewed YEARLY at a cost of $100 each year to the applicant. When the permit is initially issued, applicants must appear in person in Chelsea, MA (Boston area) to be processed. After that, permits are renewed yearly by mail. Every 5 years, the permit holder must appear again in person for renewal processing.

Non Resident CCW Application can be found here:

Download your RI application here: (We do not recommend using other Rhode Island applications.) Please bring this application with you the night of the course.

Upon successful completion, students will be certified with whatever caliber used to shoot the course as well as smaller calibers than was used.  (For example, if you want to certify with a .45, dont bring a .380!)

Students  will  shoot the Rhode Island Army L course which is required by the State of Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office for a Rhode Island Pistol Permit.

The Army L course is challenging and prior shooting experience is recommended. You will get three (3) attempts to pass the Army L qualification and upon successful completion, you will be certified with the caliber of gun you use. We suggest you come to HVSS and practice on the Army L target prior to taking this course.

What is the Army L target/course? It is a large target that is scored at 25 yards. Students must achieve a minimum score of 195 out of a possible 300 utilizing 30 rounds of ammo. This is harder than it sounds for most people. Students have 30 minutes to shoot 30 rounds.

Information about the Rhode Island Army L course can be found here: http://webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/Statutes/TITLE11/11-47/11-47-15.HTM

Students should bring a firearm, 2-3 magazines, minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, and your Rhode Island Pistol Permit Application.  The permit application is necessary so the instructor can sign off on the application upon succesful completion of the course.

Fingerprints can be done the night of the course for a small additional fee. The fingerprint card will be supplied by the instructor.

Applicants will be required to appear IN PERSON in Rhode Island if and when the applicant is given the permit.
